dear fellow readers,

Growing up, I spent a lot of time watching my grandmothers in the kitchen. My parents both immigrated to Canada in their early childhood from Eastern European countries, so thankfully our homes were never short of good cooking.

I’m not sure if it was watching my Mama stir around the kitchen singing full-heartedly, or the times my Babcia would let me make my own soups for our krasnoludki (garden gnomes) — but, somewhere in between all of this, my love for making food began.

When I moved to Prague a few years ago, I found myself missing home. As a way of bringing home a little closer, I started cooking some of my grandmothers’ most loved dishes. Through this, I realized how most of my best memories were of us all around their tables.

As a tribute to all of the meals they’ve cooked for me, I’m documenting my journey of cooking their traditional meals (& some others) for them to see, and for anyone to join.

My usual spot — the kitchen counter. Here’s a throwback to my Babcia and I making naleśniki (crêpes) one morning.
